Older models back in fashion

THE resurgence of 1990s supermodels Elle Macpherson and Claudia Schiffer and a new TV model search for over-35s has put older models back in the spotlight.

New series She's Got The Look - screening on Saturdays on Foxtel's W Channel - has put older female models firmly in the spotlight. The contestant line-up includes a 63 year old.

W channel manager Penny Win said: "With the swell of interest in having older and real women on screen and in advertising campaigns, the timing seems right for a show such as She's Got The Look to celebrate both age and beauty."

Finesse Models director Brigette Mitchell said there was an appetite for older models in Adelaide, but that it was men who scored the most work.

But Finesse's Alison Pratt, 43, is bucking that trend, having modelled since she was 18. ". . . it's a good way to earn extra money," she said.

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood launches fashion range

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood has launched an ''electrifying'' new clothing and accessories range, that he says is based on his artwork.

The 62 year-old rocker has launched the colourful, edgy designs featuring swirling patterns and guitars at department store Liberty.

Those seeking rock star chic can snap up an I Feel Like Painting shift dress in splashes of orange and yellow for £495 or a leather day bag for £715.

Liberty of London's creative director, Tamara Salman, teamed up with the musician to create the autumn/winter range.

Salman's collection is inspired by a selection of Wood's vibrant paintings, translating them on to fabrics such as canvas into leather, cotton, jersey, foil and nylon.

Wood said he found it inspiring to complete his first collection with ''such a prestigious British company that has, in the last century, worked with amazing talents such as William Morris''.

Wood posed for pictures at the launch in London next to a display of his creations housed in a giant red cage.

Three of Wood's paintings form the basis of the capsule collection.

One of them is titled I Feel Like Painting, which Wood simply said resulted from ''the day when I decided to turn my life around''.

For men, T-shirts and cotton button-up shirts are emblazoned with the words ''I feel like painting'' in graffiti-like brushstrokes.

Salman said of Wood: ''He invited me to see his paintings, which I immediately fell in love with and which inspired me to turn into prints for an exclusive range for Liberty of London.

''I particularly liked his vivid use of colour, the presence of floral patterns in his design, which is very Liberty and the undeniable influence of rock n' roll.''

The collection will make a star appearance at top end stores across the world, ranging from Liberty and Harrods in London, to stores in Japan, Ireland, Italy and the United States.
